Lyle W. Kruger

VEEDERSBURG, Ind. — Lyle W. Kruger, 79, of Veedersburg, passed away Saturday, Nov. 24, 2012, in the emergency room at Central Florida Regional Hospital in Sanford, Fla., while visiting his daughter.

Mr. Kruger was born Aug. 9, 1933, in Sidell, the son of Edward F. and Lillian Marie (Heidrich) Kruger.

He married Betty J. Hayman Jan. 22, 1955, in Veedersburg, Ind.

Surviving family include his wife, Betty Kruger of Veedersburg; two daughters, Dawn Kruger (Jim Jenkins) of Lake Mary, Fla., and Lynn Abernathy (fiancé, Scott Kesner) of Covington, Ind.; granddaughter, Savanah Abernathy, Covington; brother, Ralph (Dorothy) Kruger of Veedersburg; and nephew, Steve (Christy) Kruger of Veedersburg.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Roy Kruger.

Lyle graduated from Covington High School in 1951 and served his country in the U.S. Navy 1955-1957, spending some of this time aboard the USS Great Sitkin. He was employed at C&D Battery in Attica for 42 years, retiring in 1996, and was a contractor employee of the Veedersburg Post Office for 42 years.

Lyle was a member of the F&AM Fountain Lodge 60 in Covington, Scottish Rite Valley of Terre Haute, Zorah Shrine, O.E.S. Troy Chapter 145, American Legion Post 263 in Cayuga and the Low 12 Club in Wallace.

Lyle’s greatest enjoyment in life was his family. He was a devoted husband and a wonderful dad with a special love for his granddaughter, Savanah. He was an automobile enthusiast who enjoyed taking care of his old cars and admiring those of others. Lyle also enjoyed traveling around the country.

A celebration of Lyle’s life will begin at 11 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 1, at Dickerson Funeral Home, with Pastor Dorman Winger officiating. Visitation will be 4-7:30 p.m. Friday, Nov. 30, at the funeral home. O.E.S. service will begin at 7:30 p.m. Friday and will be followed by the Masonic service. Burial with military honors will be at Mt. Hope Cemetery in Covington.
