DANVILLE — William “Bill” Knight, 70, of Danville, died at 6:40 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 25, 2011, at Carle Hospital in Urbana.

Bill was born Feb. 13, 1941, in Alvin, the son of Ralph M. and Gwendolyn P. Sherrill Knight.

He married Kathleen Kuemmerle on Feb. 15, 1969, at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Danville. She survives.

Other survivors include four brothers, Dr. John L. (Espy) Knight of San Angelo, Texas, Richard H. (Flora Belle) Knight of Bismarck, Kenneth E. (Jeanette) Knight of Potomac and Edward J. (Marol Lee) Knight of Catlin; three sisters, Loretta L. (Joseph) Cox of Danville, Mary E. (William) Depratt of Florida and Barbara J. (Dale) Olmstead of Buday, Texas; and several nieces and nephews, Bill held a special place in his heart for these special nieces and nephews if they were his own children: Kami, Jamison, Brooke, Lindsey, Tyler, Peyton and Slayton Kuemmerle.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one nephew.

Bill served in the United States Air Force from 1959-1963. He worked at Allied Chemical for 25 years and then at DACC for 10 years, retiring as a maintenance mechanic in 2009.

He enjoyed working on cars, traveling and spending time with his nieces and nephews.

Funeral Mass will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 29, 2011, at Holy Family Catholic Church in Danville with Father Ted Pracz officiating. Burial will follow in Resurrection Cemetery in Danville. Visitation will be from 9 a.m. until time of the Mass on Thursday at the church.

Memorials may be made to the church or Schlarman Academy.

Wolfe Funeral Home & Cremation Service, 400 N. Vermilion St., Potomac, is assisting the family.
