Nancy J. Crane

TILTON — Nancy J. Crane, 72, of Danville, passed away at 7:35 p.m. Monday, Nov. 12, 2012, at Danville Care Center.

She was born April 4, 1940, in Henning to William Elston and Maxine Ethel (Simpkins) Mayfield.

Nancy first married Richard Tinder on Oct. 21, 1961. Following their separation, she married Jackie Cooper on Feb. 16, 1971. He preceded her in death on June 26, 1982, and Nancy then married Earl Robert “Peachy” Thomas on April 18, 1983. He preceded her in death on June 3, 1984. Most recently, she was married to Daniel K. Crane on Feb. 4, 1987. He preceded her in death on March 18, 1993.

She is survived by two brothers and their families, David (Mary) Mayfield of Danville, with David’s daughter, Suzanne (Jeff) Heaton, and granddaughter, Alyssa Dawn Heaton, and Otto (Carol) Mayfield of Tyler, Texas, with their daughter, Barbie Mayfield; five stepchildren, David Crane of Indiana, Michael Crane of Danville, Stephen Crane of Greenville, S.C., Douglas Crane of Farmer City, and Diana Johnson of Greenville, S.C.; and special friend, Melvin Clark, who shared her home for 18 years and her heart for 20 years. Melvin and Nancy remained dedicated to one another.

In addition to her husbands, she was preceded in death by her parents.

Nancy enjoyed gardening and fishing and was a past member of the Eagle’s Club. She had worked previously in housekeeping at Danville Care Center and as a nurse’s aide, housekeeper and in laundry at Americana Nursing Home. Nancy also had been employed in the lunchroom at C&I Railroad, Kelly’s Pizza and Denny’s Bakery.

A service to celebrate the life of Nancy Crane will begin at 11 a.m. Friday, Nov. 16, at Sunset Funeral Home and Cremation Center, A Life Celebration Home, in Danville. Visitation will be 10-11 a.m., one hour prior to the service. Dr. Robert Bartosh will officiate. Burial will follow at Spring Hill Cemetery in Danville. However, no graveside services will be held.

Memorials may be made to the charity of the donor’s choice.

Nancy’s family would like to thank all of the staff at Danville Care (South) for the loving care that they provided.
