ROSSVILLE —
James Clayton Bainbridge — beloved son, brother, husband, father, and friend — passed Wednesday, Oct. 3, 2012, in Las Vegas, Nev.
On Sept. 14, 1934, James was born in Danville, Ill., to Ira and Mary Bainbridge, both now deceased. Pops had three sisters and three brothers. One sister and two brothers preceded Jim on his next journey.
Pops and high school sweetheart, Margaret (Margie) Louisa Williams, married on June 16, 1950.
They lovingly produced and raised a family of one girl, Sharon Louise Bainbridge Cuellar, deceased; and five boys, Donald Joseph, deceased, James William, Jerry Michael, Jeffery Duane and John Patrick. The children continued their parents’ ways and provided 18 children to the world. Even more great- and great-great-grandchildren came along.
Pops passed along his love for fishing, hunting, sports, woodworking and generally living to his children and friends. Pops was a life-long Chicago Cubs baseball and Bears football fan. He and mom made football very interesting because Mom is a fan of the Green Bay Packers. They loved to tease each other when their teams played.
Later in life, Pops became a Utah Jazz fan. A lot of sports were watched and enjoyed with Pops. If he could not watch the Cubs play, he would settle for the Colorado Rockies.
With all the nieces and nephews and other relatives, Jim helped make all family reunions very special. Jim would be among the first to organize and play baseball and basketball games. Jim loved being around family and friends and participating in their lives. If somebody needed cabinets or furniture built, Pops would do it and feel bad about charging for the materials. If somebody wanted to learn how to do carpentry and cabinet making, Pops would work with them to help them learn. Pops taught a large number of us to hunt and fish. Pops’ hunting included mushrooms, rabbits, squirrels, pheasants, deer and elk.
Jim knew the value of education and impressed it on his children to obtain as much as they could but not to lose sight that education is not enough by itself; it must be coupled with actions to have value.
Did you know Jim loved to read? He enjoyed reading many different genres but really enjoyed historical and detective novels.
Pops will be cremated at the McDermott Mortuary in Las Vegas. By his wishes, there will be no services.
The world is a better place because James Clayton was here and graced us with his presence.
