Donald James Allhands

TILTON — Donald James Allhands, 83, of Tilton, passed away at 2:45 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 7, 2012, at the VA Illiana Health Care System in Danville.

Donald was born in Danville on Nov. 27, 1928, the son of Harry and Hattie (Lovins) Allhands.

He married Jane Drews on Feb. 8, 1949, in Danville. She survives.

He is survived by two sons, Dennis (Debi) Allhands of Danville and Scott (Kelly) Allhands of Burlington, Ky.; four daughters, Cindy (Joe) Suchaczewski of Olivet, Peggy (Randy Joe) Pichon of Tilton, Donna (Jeff) Gootee of Homer and Shannan (Jeff) Ford of Fithian; 14 grandchildren, Jenny Shudholme, Robby Sapp, Carrie High, Cody Pichon, Chelsea Allhands, Evan Allhands, Jake Allhands, Gable Allhands, Niles Gootee, Garret Gootee, Jurry Gootee, Kendra Ford, Marissa Ford and Jenna Ford; and 10 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, four sisters and six brothers.

Donald served our country in 1946 as a part of the United States Navy. He then served as a Navy Reservist for four years. Donald worked construction until becoming a laborer at Interstate Water Company, where he retired in 1991.

He was a member of Central Park Church of Christ in Tilton. He loved to go fishing and hunting, gardening, playing guitar, playing euchre and working in the yard, but especially traveling and spending time with his family.

A celebration of Donald’s life will begin at 11 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 11, at Sunset Funeral Home and Cremation Center, A Life Celebration Home, in Danville with Pastor Wade Martin officiating. Visitation will be 9-11 a.m. prior to the service. Entombment will take place at Sunset Memorial Park in Danville.
