Evelyn L. “Vickie” Hensley, 85, passed peacefully into Heaven at 8:45 p.m. Nov. 20, 2012, at Colonial Manor Nursing Home, Danville, with her family at her side.
She was born Dec. 7, 1926, to William E. and Gladys L. Elkins Burch in Danville.
She attended Danville schools and graduated from Danville High School in 1945.
On April 19, 1947, she was united in marriage to Vern E. Hensley in Westville. He preceded her in death on June 10, 1987, after 40 years of marriage.
She is survived by two daughters, Diana L. (Gary) Huls of Tilton and Julie A. (Dan Schroeder) Creviston of Danville; one sister, Margy A. (William) Schutz; three grandchildren, Billy (Melanee Buck) Powell, Angela Powell and Jennifer A. (Robert) Wright; five great grandchildren, Skyela (Ross Beninato) Powell, Kyle and Macee Pratt, and Tucker Powell, all of Danville, and Sophia Wright of Tilton; one great-great-granddaughter, Aria Beninato; five step-great-grandchildren, Garrett and Megan Such and Aiden, Dylan and Logan Huls; two nieces, Tina M. Cramer of Tilton and Tamara (Damon) Meadows of Iowa; one nephew, Brian Hay of Ohio; two step-grandchildren, Crystal (Kris) Such of Danville and Dwayne (Amanda) Huls of Bismarck. She was preceded in death by her parents; two sisters, Dorothy M. Pearson; and infant sister, Betty Jane Burch; and son-in-law, William Creviston.
Evelyn worked mostly in retail sales starting with Meis Brothers, Goldblatts, and 14 years at J.C. Penney. She enjoyed helping people and worked as a volunteer for 10 years at Vermilion Manor Nursing Home with its Auxiliary (Strawberry Patch). She has been a member of the Community Church of God for 20 years. In recent years, she was member of the Central Park Church of Christ. She adored her family and, in her early years, she and Vern loved taking yearly family fishing trips to Wisconsin. They loved the Wisconsin scenery and lakes.
A celebration of Vickie’s life will begin at 2 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 24, at Sunset-Urbas Funeral Chapel, 414 S. State St., Westville, with Wade Martin officiating. Visitation will be 11 a.m.-2 p.m. Saturday prior to her service. She will be laid to rest in Sunset Memorial Park, Danville.
