James “Larry” Hoover

MARSHALL, Ind. — James “Larry” Hoover, 71, of Marshall, Ind., died at 9:15 p.m. EST Monday, Nov. 26, 2012, at Union Hospital, Terre Haute, Ind.

Larry was born June 24, 1941, in Marshall, Ind., to James and Catherine Osborn Hoover.

He married Dotty Branson on June 23, 1962, in Bloomingdale, Ind.

He is survived by his wife, Dotty Hoover, Bloomingdale, Ind.; son, Jamie Hoover (Marilynn), Marshall, Ind.; granddaughter, Alexis; and grandson, Cade.

He was preceded in death by his parents and an aunt, Inez Carpenter.

Larry graduated in 1959 as a member of the first graduating class from Turkey Run High School, and he scored the first touchdown for Turkey Run High School.

He worked for Kraft Foods in Marshall, Ind., for 10 years, Turkey Run Canoe Rental for 40 years and retired from Futurex Industries in Marshall after working 33 years. He was the clerk-treasurer and water superintendent for the town of Marshall for 35 years.

His memberships included: Marshall Federated Church, Bloomingdale Lodge 127 F & AM, Marshall Volunteer Fire Department for 45 years and National Rifle Association.

He enjoyed gardening, hunting, mushroom hunting and playing basketball. Larry played basketball at the Hub in Veedersburg until he was 70 years old.

Services: 11 a.m. EST Friday, Nov. 30, at Marshall Federated Church, Marshall, Ind., the Rev. Don Perry and Pastor Keith McIntyre officiating. Visitation: 4-7:30 p.m. EST Thursday, Nov. 29, at Barnes and Rice Funeral Home, Rockville, Ind., with a Masonic memorial service at 7:30 p.m. EST. Burial: Poplar Grove Cemetery, Marshall, Ind.
