Jack Cottingham

DANVILLE — Jack Cottingham, 85, of Danville, passed away at 8:25 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 28, 2012, at Hawthorne Inn, Danville.

Jack was born April 27, 1927, in Danville to William Jackson and Mildred Gundy Cottingham Sr.

Jack served in the U.S. Navy and later worked with Carson Pirie Scott department store and L. Meis department store as manager.

Survivors include a special niece, Millie (David) Hart of Danville; three grandnieces, Holly Hart of Savoy, Jody (Steve) Otto of Avon, Ind., and Jill (Derrick) Swinford of Bismarck; two great-grandnieces, Chelsea (Jordan) Haynes and Hannah Swinford; two grandnephews, Jared Otto and Jacob Otto; and dear friends, Paul and Helen Thiede and Helen Jenkins.

Jack was preceded in death by three sisters, Margaret Cottingham, Helen Cottingham and Thelma Mathewson; one nephew, Jack Roland; one grandniece, Lindsay Otto; and a lifelong friend, Louise Hart.

Jack was an avid gardener and enjoyed woodworking. He was an English tutor at Danville Area Community College for several years and a member of St. James United Methodist Church in Danville.

The family wishes to thank the staff of the Hawthorne Inn for their kind and compassionate care of Jack as well as the staff of Danville Cancer Center.

Services: 11 a.m. Saturday at Robison Chapel, Catlin. Burial: Spring Hill Cemetery, Danville. Visitation is from 10 a.m. until service time on Saturday at Robison Chapel, Catlin.

Memorials to: Provena United Samaritans Medical Center Cancer Center, in care of Robison Chapel.
