DANVILLE — Ernest James Strain Jr. passed away on Dec. 1, 2012.

Ernie was born June 12, 1937, in Danville to Ernest Sr. and Grace Strain.

He was preceded in death by his first wife, Barbara Strain (Phillips); his second wife, Linda Strain (Carson-DeBarba); and by his son Kenneth.

Survivors include a son, Paul (Rebecca) Strain, of Danville; two stepsons, Jody (Rachel) Carson and Bob Carson; stepdaughter, Mandy (Jose) Pascual (Carson); grandchildren, Stephen, Andrew, Jacob, Thomas, Jeremiah and Abigail Strain, Aurora and Celestino Pasqual, Brittany Carson, Lee Ann Carson, Anthony, Annabell and Abigail Carson; and great-grandchildren, Devon and Kamryn Vice.

After graduating from Danville High School, Ernie served in the Army, deployed abroad in Germany. Upon returning, he went to work for Danville Metal Stamping and retired after a 35-year career.

Ernie started playing ukulele at age 12, graduated to guitar shortly thereafter and never really stopped. He was a longtime member and president of the American Federation of Musicians Local 90, playing country music throughout East Central Illinois and Indiana in many different bands. He was a lifelong advocate for live music and musicians.

After retirement, Ernie was an auxiliary officer for the Danville Police Department and assisted Danville Community Action with winterizing inspections and their annual Power Blitz programs. Ernie enjoyed karaoke every weekend at Scooter’s.

There will be a memorial service at 4 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 6, at Holiday Hills Community Church.
