DANVILLE — Jerry R. Zimmerman, 70, of Danville, passed away at 8:37 a.m. Friday, March 8, 2013, at Vermilion Manor Nursing Home in Tilton.

He was born Jan. 5, 1943, in Danville, to Hussie George Zimmerman and Christine Margaret Daniels Zimmerman.

He is survived by his two children, David (Lois) Zimmerman of Danville and Vicki Anne (Joe) Roberts of Sidney, Ill.; and two granddaughters, Amanda Michelle Warner and Seanna Nichole Burgess. He was preceded in death by his parents.

Jerry served his country for four years in the U.S. Air Force. During this time, he was stationed in Colorado Springs. He then worked for General Motors as a millwright for 31 years. Following GM, Jerry worked for the Village of Tilton until his retirement after 12 years.

He had been a member of the Faith Community Bible Church in Tilton and enjoyed photography, hunting and fishing, and collecting coins.

A graveside service for Jerry Zimmerman will begin at 10 a.m. Monday, March 11, at Young America Cemetery in Hume, where military honors will be held. Pastor Raymie Gordon will officiate. Memorials may be made to Riley’s Children’s Hospital or St. Jude Children’s Hospital. Sunset Funeral Home and Cremation Center, A Life Celebration Home, in Danville is in charge of arrangements.
