Arthur D. ‘Bud’ McGrew

DOWNS — Arthur D. “Bud” McGrew, 55, of Downs, formerly of Danville, died at 10:50 a.m. Wednesday, March 6, 2013, at his home.

His celebration of life service will be at 11 a.m. Friday, March 15, at Carmody-Flynn Williamsburg Funeral Home, Bloomington, with the Rev. Ken Burgard officiating. Private family interment will be at a later date. Visitation will be from 9:30-11 a.m. Friday, March 15, at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Tri-Valley Special Olympics.

He was born May 1, 1957, in Danville, the son of Arthur and Dorothy Cooper McGrew. He married Sandra L. Edmund on Nov. 25, 1978, in Danville. She survives.

Also surviving are three children, Eric (Niki) McGrew of Heyworth, Wesley (Jessica) McGrew of Downs and Rachel McGrew at home; five grandchildren, who were the lights of his life, Stephanie McGrew, Jackson McGrew, Mackenzie McGrew, Madison McGrew and Hayden McGrew; a sister-in-law, Janie (Bruce) Westenfelder and their son, Chase, of Naperville; a brother-in-law, Lindy (Sue) Edmund and their children, Carlie and Kyle, of Indianapolis; an aunt, Shirley Tanner and her family of Carbondale; a special cousin, Michelle Songer of Oswego; and the Kernaghan family.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his father-in-law and-mother-in-law, George and Betty Edmund, who were like parents to him.

After graduating from Danville High School, Buddy attended Danville Area Community College where he studied police science.

Bud spent most of his career as an electric motor repairman, repairing large-scale motors. He most recently was employed by Decatur Industrial Electric. Bud was a member of the IBEW Local 146.

A dedicated and devoted father and grandfather, Bud loved nothing more than spending time with his family, friends and, most of all, his grandbabies. He enjoyed dancing, fishing, camping and gardening.

Above all else, Buddy was a kind, gentle and caring man. If anyone needed a helping hand, Bud was there to lend it.

As our family gathers in the future, we will always have a place set for you. Your seat can never be filled. Until we meet again … we love you.
