WILLIAMSPORT, Ind. —
David “Dave” Landes, 69, of Williamsport, died Friday, Jan. 27, 2012, at his residence.
Dave was born in Lafayette, Ind., on March 10, 1942. He was the son of Earl E. and Ethel (Metzger) Landes.
He was a 1960 graduate of Mulberry High School. He later graduated from the State Police Academy.
He married Brenda S. Stephens on Sept. 14, 1985. She survives.
Dave previously lived in Mulberry and Benton County, Ind. He had resided in rural Williamsport for more than 30 years.
Dave worked at Alcoa after high school graduation until becoming a state police trooper for 24 years of service.
Dave was a member of the West Lebanon Christian Church, the F & AM Lodge 352, West Lebanon, where he was past master, Scottish Rite, Terre Haute, and Grotto. He enjoyed woodworking, farming and loved animals, especially his cat, Stevie. His grandchildren were the love of his life.
Surviving along with his wife, Brenda, are: his mother, Ethel Landes of Mulberry, Ind.; two children, Roger Smith Jr. (wife, Kelly) of rural Williamsport and Keith Smith (wife, Jackie) of Evansville; sisters, Nancy K. Davison (husband, Charles) of Mulberry, Ind., and Clara M. Cooper (husband, Bob) of Hillsboro, Ore.; and three grandchildren, Sydney, Jay and Owen Smith.
Dave was preceded in death by his father, brother, Edward Dean Landes, and a granddaughter, Emmalee Nicole Smith.
Visitation will be Saturday, Feb. 4, at Grady Funeral Home in Williamsport from 10 a.m. EST until Masonic services at 1 p.m. EST. The funeral service will immediately follow, with Pastor John Buckley officiating. Interment will be at West Lebanon Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Riley Hospital for Children.
