NEWPORT, Ind. — Paul Andrew Cope, 52, of Newport, Ind., and formerly of Danville, Ill., passed away at 2:40 p.m. EST Sunday, Dec. 23, 2012, at Union Hospital in Terre Haute, Ind.

He was born March 22, 1960, in Danville, the son of Michael and Phyllis Zimmerman Largent.

He married Penny Tinder on May 24, 1985, in Catlin. She survives.

Other survivors include his children, Tassie (Donnie) Haner of Danville, Josephine (Lennie) Coffey of Rossville, Bethany (Shaun) Casey of Danville, Andrew (Brittany) Cope of Newport, Ind., and Jonathan (Sarah) Cope of Del City, Okla.; his mother, Phyllis Largent of Danville; 21 grandchildren; five sisters, including Nanette (Randy) Pruitt of Danville, Rose (Terry) Swaim of Tilton, and Ann (Bryan) McDaniel of Perrysville, Ind.; four brothers, including James Newberry and Mark Largent, both of Danville, and John (Brenda) Largent of Belgium.

Paul was preceded in death by his father, Michael Largent; son, Paul Jr.; granddaughter, Andrea Cope; grandson, Jacoby Ryan Cope; one sister; and one brother.

Paul was a former truck driver, working at different firms in the Danville area. Paul served with the U.S. Army National Guard.

He was a former volunteer at Newport, Kickapoo and Tilton fire departments and Oakwood Rescue. He was an organ donor. He especially enjoyed MMA fighting, which his son Jonathan Cope participated in, serving as his corner man.

Memorial service: 4-7 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 30, at Kennekuk Hideaway. Dress casually. Cremation has been accorded.
