Hank was born July 23, 1922, in Danville, to Henry Valentine and Constance George Shouse, Sr. He attended McKinley and Washington grade schools, graduating from DHS in 1941. During WWII, Hank served in the Navy, stationed at Pearl Harbor. After the war, he returned to Danville and was a firefighter for the City of Danville from 1946 until his retirement in 1977. Later, he worked as a security guard at Lauhoff Grain Company, retiring in 1987.

Hank married Lois Jean Connor on Feb. 10, 1945, at St. Paul’s Church. He loved dancing with his wife and spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren. In his later years, he enjoyed having coffee with his buddies at Schroeder’s and visiting the current firefighters.

He is survived by daughters, Connie (C.J.) Shouse and Christina Shouse, and son, Doug (Rana) Shouse, all of Danville; two grandchildren, Kyle Henry Shouse and Amy Elizabeth Shouse of Lake Villa; a brother, Jack (Helen) Shouse of Westville; and a sister-in-law, Keota Shouse of Jacksonville, Ill.

He was preceded in death by his wife, parents, brother Billy Bob and two nephews.

Hank’s transition from this life to the next was a peaceful experience thanks to the exceptional staff of the Palliative Care Unit at the VA hospital in Danville. The family sends a special thank you to each of these caring individuals.
