BOSWELL, Ind. —
Mary Leona (Whistler) Foster, 83, of Boswell, Ind., passed away at 7:50 a.m. EST Friday, Jan. 4, 2013, at Cumberland Pointe Health Campus, West Lafayette, Ind.
She was born Sept. 7, 1929, in Tippecanoe County, Ind., to Walter Loyd and Gladys Lillian (Davis) Whistler. She attended Tab Grade School and graduated from Boswell High School in 1947. She married Carl Foster on Dec. 18, 1949, in Ambia, Ind. He preceded her in death on Aug. 11, 2004. They lived and farmed in both Warren and Benton counties.
Mary worked as a bookkeeper for Robinson Implement Dealer in Boswell, Ind., and for Hoopeston Implement, the International Harvester dealer in Hoopeston. She then worked for Birkey’s Farm Store, Inc., in both Hoopeston and Williamsport, Ind., retiring in 2005. She was a member of Locust Grove Methodist Church and later Boswell Christian Church. She enjoyed cooking, gardening, fishing and spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was an excellent cook.
She is survived by four children, Sheila (Don) Young of Downs, Mark (Pat) Foster of Attica, Ind., Gary (Charlene) of Sheridan, Wyo., and Jeff (Kathie) Foster of Fowler, Ind. Also surviving are 11 grandchildren, Jack (Sherry) Young, Joe (Sheri) Young, Amanda (Brock) Goodrick, Brooke (Cory) Max, Brady (Angela) Foster, Dusty (Joanie) Foster, Kreigh (Cassie) Foster, Keaton (Lacey) Foster, Kybren Foster, Carl Foster and Curtis Foster. Also surviving are 10 great-grandchildren.
She is survived by one sister, Phyllis Larson of Boswell, Ind.; two sisters-in-law, Dorothy Foster of Williamsport, Ind., and Evylin Whistler of Williamsport, Ind.; and two brothers-in-law, Johnnie (Carolyn) Foster of Wolcott, Ind., and James Smiley of Monticello, Ind.
She was preceded in death by six brothers, Loyd, John, Dale, Edgar, Charles and Jim; and three sisters, Louise, Betty and Martha (her twin).
Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. EST Monday, Jan. 7, at Grady Funeral Home in Williamsport, Ind. Services will be at 11 a.m. EST Tuesday, Jan. 8, in the chapel, with her nephew, Ken Larson, and Minister John Morris officiating. Interment will follow at the Boswell Cemetery.
