DANVILLE — Rose Calamari, 87, of Danville, passed away at 8:52 p.m. Friday, Jan. 4, 2013, at Liberty Village where she had been a resident for the last few years.

She was born on Jan. 10, 1925, in Cresslough, Ireland, the daughter of Patrick and Mary (McGinley) Murphy. She met her husband-to-be, John Calamari, for the first time in Scotland while he was stationed there during World War II. They reunited in Chicago following the war and were married in 1947. He preceded her in death in 2001.

Survivors include three sons, John E. Calamari of Kenosha, Wis., Art (Amy) Calamari of Bloomington and Paul (Andrea) Calamari of Danville; one daughter, June Steward of Marco Island, Fla.; two sisters, Jo and Pat; nine grandchildren, Reid, Pat, Robert, Kelsey, Kirby, Arin, Colin, Clay and Annan; and two great-grandchildren, Gram and Colbie Rose.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; and siblings, Anna, Eileen and Ed.

Rose was a beloved wife, sister, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She loved spending time with her grandchildren, playing golf, playing cards and playing bingo with her family and friends at Liberty Village. Rose was also a longtime member of St. Paul’s Catholic Church.

A visitation for Rose will be held from 4-6 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 8, at Sunset Funeral Home and Cremation Center, A Life Celebration Home, in Danville. Entombment will take place at 1 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 9, at All Saints Cemetery and Mausoleum in Chicago. Memorials can be made in Rose’s name to St. Paul’s Catholic Church.
