William 'Jackie' Stumph Sr.

DANVILLE — William “Jackie” Stumph Sr., 79, of Danville, passed away at 4:07 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 30, 2013, at Provena United Samaritans Medical Center in Danville.

Jackie was born on April 15, 1933, to Earl and Lula Ray (Wicker) Stumph in Lebanon, Ky.

He married Jane Riley on Aug. 6, 1955, in Lebanon, Ky. She survives.

Other survivors include: son, William “Jack” (Brenda) Stumph Jr. of Crawfordsville, Ind.; and daughter, Pat (Gayland) Weixeldorfer of Tucson, Ariz.; grandchildren, William “Bill” (Vanessa) Stumph III, Robert “Bobby” (Cassie) Stumph and Teri Lynn Underwood; great-grandchildren, William “Jackson” IV, James “Jimmy” and Gabriel “Gabe” Stumph; and brothers, Francis “Frankie” (Ann) Stumph of Hoopeston and Philip “Jay” (Connie) Stumph of Potomac.

Jackie was preceded in death by his parents; granddaughter, Melisa Underwood; and his brother, Mickie.

A farmer all his life, Jackie moved to Illinois in 1959 and worked at the Lane Farm in Potomac until his retirement. A man of great faith, he worked at the St. James Church as a custodian and handyman for nearly 20 years.

Jackie was a skilled woodworker who liked to garden and keep his lawn tidy with the help of a John Deere tractor. Jackie loved his family, especially his grandchildren, and will be greatly missed.

A celebration of Jackie’s life will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 5, at Sunset Funeral Home and Cremation Center in Danville, with the Rev. C. Don Ferrill officiating and burial at Sunset Memorial Park. A visitation will be held from 3-7 p.m. Monday, Feb. 4, at Sunset Funeral Home and Cremation Center, A Life Celebration Home, in Danville.

Memorials may be made in Jackie’s name to a charity of the donor’s choice.
