DANVILLE —
Lillian Constance Keyes Cherry, 78, went to be with the Lord on Monday, Nov. 12, 2012, at Carle Hospital, Urbana.
She was born March 2, 1934, in Atlantic Highlands, N.J., to Lillian Bell Keyes and Leon J. Keyes.
Lillian attended schools in Middleton Township, N.J., and graduated from Middletown Township High School.
She met and married George W. Cherry II (deceased) and relocated to Palmyra, N.J., where they resided at 429 W. Broad St. To that union were born five children, Derrick M. Cherry (deceased), Duane G. Cherry (Marian), Deron L. Cherry (Hope), Charlotte L. (Tracy) Cherry, George W. Cherry III (deceased).
Lillian was employed at ARI (Automotive Rental Incorporation) in New Jersey in 1976 and retired from ARI in 2002 and relocated to Danville.
While in New Jersey, Lillian was a member of St. Paul’s UAME Church and was very active playing the piano for the choir for 30-plus years. Lillian also founded the men’s choir at St. Paul’s. She loved to travel with the church and her many girlfriends. Lillian enjoyed her time with her grandchildren and cherished each and every one of them.
After relocating to Danville, she joined Life Church and was a member of the Gold Club.
Lillian leaves to mourn, her brothers, Lawrence C. Keyes (Charlotte) and George W. Keyes (Bonnie); many nieces and nephews; eight beautiful grandchildren, Gabrielle Cherry (Maria), Deron L. Cherry II (Faith), Dennis Forrest Jr., Micah Cherry, Austin Rowe, Isaiah Cherry, Isabella Cherry, Samuel Ault; and so many special friends who will miss her dearly.
Lillian was preceded in death by her parents, Lillian Bell Keyes and Leon J. Keyes; her two sons, George and Derrick; her brothers, Leon J. Keyes, Edward A. Keyes; and sister, Juanita K. Stewart.
A visitation service will be 4-6 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 15, at Life Church, 2105 N. Bowman Ave., Danville, with Words of Encouragement from 6-6:30 p.m. by Pastor Neal. Funeral services will begin at 11 a.m. Monday, Nov. 19, at St. Paul’s UAME Church, Palmyra, N.J., with visitation from 10-11 a.m. There also will be a visitation from 6-8 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 18, at St. Paul’s.In lieu of flowers, please send donations in her name to St. Paul’s UAME Church Building Fund, 305 Third St., Palmyra, N.J. 08065.
