Alice J. Niccum

NEWPORT, Ind. — Alice J. Niccum, 84, a resident of Newport for the past five years and formerly of Covington, Ind., passed away at 10:30 p.m. EDT Sunday, March 10, 2013, at her residence.

She was born May 31, 1928, in Perrysville, Ind., the daughter of the late Clyde and Margaret Woodrow Keller.

She married Basil "Beanie" Niccum on May 18, 1946, in Covington. He preceded her in death on April 23, 2008.

Survivors include her daughter, Lisa Jane (Ed) Pearman of Newport; eight grandchildren, Alan (Kayla) Phelps of Dana, Ind., David (fiance’, Lisa McGuire) Phelps of Crawfordsville, Ind., Laiken (Robin Drennan) Phelps, Michael Ray Phelps and Mikael (fiance’, Racheal Benskin) Phelps all of Cayuga, Ind., Morgan (fiance’, Brayden Knutti) Phelps of Veedersburg, Ind., and Samantha Phelps and Olivia Grace Pearman, both of Newport; six great-grandchildren, Kaytlan, Cambrea, Hanna, Haileigh, Ryleigh and Sebastien Phelps, with one due in July and one in September; brother, Harold Keller of Lafayette, Ind.; sister-in-law, Margaret Keller of Mellott; three special nieces, Jody (Gary) Rush of Waynetown, Ind., Susie (Bill) Keller of Veedersburg, and Linda Reik of Danville, Ill., special nephew, Sonny (Susie) Keller of Covington, Ind.; and a very dear friend and caretaker, Cathy Eldridge.

Alice was preceded in death by five brothers, Wayne, Vernell, Chuck, James and infant Glen Keller.

Alice and her late husband, Basil, were owners/operators of the former Niccum Tax Service in Covington. She was a 1946 graduate of Attica High School and a member of the Covington Auxiliary V.F.W. Post 2395.

Alice enjoyed sewing, crocheting, reading and spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Funeral services: 2 p.m. EDT Wednesday, March 13, at DeVerter Funeral Home in Cayuga. Officiating: Ramona Trover. Burial: Lower Mound Cemetery north of Perrysville, Ind. Visitation: Wednesday, March 13, from 1 p.m. EDT until time of services at the funeral home.
