HILLSBORO, Ind. — Kenneth W. Allen, 87 Hillsboro, died at 7:34 p.m. Thursday, July 2, 2009, in the St. Elizabeth Medical Center, Lafayette.
Kenneth was born near Grange Corner in Parke County, Ind., on Nov. 16, 1921. He was the son of the late Emery and Mavis Henley Allen. He was raised in Wingate, graduating from Wingate High School. He has lived most of his life in rural Hillsboro. He was a life-long farmer, farming in Richland and Cain Townships in Fountain County. He raised cattle and retired from farming in 1982.
Kenneth was a member of the Hillsboro United Methodist Church; member of American Legion Post 288 of Veedersburg and the Fountain County Farm Bureau.
Kenneth was a veteran of the U.S. Army serving during WW II. He saw action in the European Theater.
On Oct. 15, 1949, Kenneth married Barbara E. Hayman in Covington. She preceded him in death on October 29, 2008.
Surviving are two sons, Larry (Karen) Allen, Veedersburg, and Randy (Tammy) Allen, Hillsboro; five grandchildren, Jeremy (Amy) Allen, Misty Blankenship, Stacey Allen, Stephanie (Brock) Branson and Shelby Allen; four great-grandchildren, Hanna Rich, Lexi and Noah Allen and Gabriella Blankenship; two sisters, Ruth (Erval) Tansel, Crawfordsville, and Norma (Everett Jr.) Wilson, Hillsboro. He was preceded in death by an infant son, Rex Allen, three brothers and two sisters.
Friends may call at the Maus Funeral Home, Hillsboro, from 5-8 p.m. EDT Monday, July 6. Services will be in the funeral home at 11 a.m. Tuesday, July 7, with Pastor Gary Johnson officiating. Burial with military honors will be in the Waynetown Masonic Cemetery, Waynetown. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Kidney Foundation.
