Carson E. “Gene” Burton, 77, of Hoopeston died at 11:30 a.m. Saturday, July 4, 2009, at Hoopeston Community Memorial Hospital.
He was born on April 2, 1932, in Nancy, Ky., a son of Jarvis Burton and Ethel (Hudson) Burton. On June 27, 1957, he married Donna K. Blakey in Danville. She preceded him in death.
Gene was survived by three daughters, Patty (Marty) Maul of Hoopeston, Sandy (Ken) Grimes of Summerset, S.D., and Candy Burton (Eddie Edwards Jr.) of Hoopeston; a son, Clay Jarvis (Patty) Burton of Naples, Fla.; four sisters, Blondia Bell (Terry Clark) of Hoopeston, Olivine Bunch and Jean Haddix, both of Ohio, and Willadine Dalton of Kentucky; three brothers, Luide (Lillian) Burton of Hoopeston, Athel Burton of Hoopeston and Dude Burton of Missouri; grandchildren, Paige Maul (David Abbed), Amie Maul (Adam Musk), Jason Grimes, Jessica (Luke) Esteppe, Lauryn Edwards and Taylor Burton; great-grandchildren, Braydon Fox and Madelyne Grimes; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife and four brothers.
Gene was a truck driver for many years and also served as a U.S. Marine during the Korean War. He enjoyed NASCAR and spending time with his family and friends.
Services: Cremation rights will be accorded. Visitation: 6-8 p.m. Tuesday, July 7, 2009, at Anderson Funeral Home in Hoopeston with military rights accorded at 6 p.m. the Hoopeston American Legion and the VFW. There is no burial.
Memorials may be made to the American Lung Association of Mid-Eastern Illinois in Pontiac or Hoopeston Community Memorial Hospital.
