Jack E. Connor

DANVILLE — Jack E. Connor of Danville and Hilton Head, S.C., died Wednesday, Oct. 10, 2012, at his Danville home.

A visitation will be 1-3 p.m., followed by a memorial service at 3 p.m. Monday, Oct. 15, at Pape Funeral Home, 10 E. Williams St., Danville.

Jack Connor was born in Danville on July 11, 1926, and passed away peacefully at home on Oct. 10, 2012.

He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Winifred Connor (nee Chenoweth); his father, John E. Connor; and his mother, Dorothy Connor.

After graduating from Danville High School, Jack served in the Air Force at the end of World War II and was attending Bradley University in Peoria upon his return, when he met his wife of 57 years. After graduating from Bradley, they made their home in Danville, where they raised their four children before moving to Hilton Head Island in 1981.

An avid and talented golfer, Jack won numerous golf tournaments including several Danville Country Club CICCA championships. He was named captain of the Danville High School basketball team his junior year and was coined by the Commercial-News as the “diminutive star of the regional and sectional tournaments.” Mr. Connor also was proud to have been president of the Danville Country Club Board of Directors during an important era in the club’s history.

Mr. Connor’s profession and passion was real estate. A broker since 1956, he started his own business in 1963, Jack Connor Real Estate. He was a consummate and creative professional whom his clients trusted implicitly. He was active in the community in Danville in residential and commercial real estate development and in other significant civic and charitable activities. Among many distinctions, he won a national merit award from the Homes for Better Living Contest for his development of Blackbriar Condominiums in Denvale West.

Upon moving to Hilton Head Island in 1981, Jack was a pioneer in many residential and commercial real estate transactions, including the sale of Ribaut Island. He twice achieved the highest level awarded by the prestigious Million Dollar Club with Sea Pines Real Estate Co. in Hilton Head and had an active practice until he retired and returned to Danville in 2010. Since returning to Danville, Jack has been a regular attendee at Danville High School football games and joined the Danville Rotary Club.

He is survived by his loving children, Timothy Connor, Anne Connor Foley and Clare Connor Ranalli, all of Chicago, and John Connor of Houston, Texas. He also is survived by his sons-in-law, Nick Ranalli and Richard Foley; and daughter-in-law, Linda Connor; and three grandchildren, Liam, Sean and Aidan Connor.

Gifts in lieu of flowers are requested to be sent to the Regional Cancer Center in Danville, 806 N. Logan St., Danville, IL 61832.
