Donald Allen Brown

GENEVA — Donald Allen Brown, 69, of Geneva, passed away Wednesday, Oct. 10, 2012, at Delnor Community Hospital in Geneva.

He was born June 15, 1943, in Chicago, the son of John and Louise (Swan) Brown. He was united in marriage to Beverly Cunningham on Aug. 6, 1972, in Fithian.

Don obtained a BA from Cornell College in Mt. Vernon, Iowa, and an MA from Northern Illinois University. He taught at Geneva Middle School for 37 years and currently was teaching in the GED program at Waubonsee Community College.

Don was a diehard Cubs fan. An outstanding athlete, he is in the Elgin Sports Hall of Fame, the Cornell College Sports Hall of Fame and twice received All American honors in wrestling. He enjoyed playing golf, riding his bicycle and watching his grandsons play soccer. He was a member of the Methodist Men’s Club and the Methodist Men’s Golf League.

Don was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his wife, Beverly; his children, Scott (Heather) of Zanesville, Ohio, and Lynsye (Capt. Reed) Peeples of Amburg, Germany; his grandsons, Kaid and Logan Brown, of Zanesville; two brothers, Kenneth (Barbara) of Elgin, and Douglas (Diana) of St. Charles; several nieces and nephews; and his sister-in-law Donna Sharpf of Fithian.

A visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. Monday, Oct. 15, at Yurs Funeral Home, 1771 W. State St., Geneva. There will be a celebration of Don’s life at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 16, at United Methodist Church of Geneva, 211 Hamilton St. Burial will take place at 11:30 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 18, in Stearn’s Cemetery in Fithian.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations be made to the Elgin Sports Hall of Fame Scholarship Fund.
