Opal Wimsett

JAMAICA — Opal Wimsett, a resident of Vermilion Manor Nursing Home, went to be with her Lord on Sept. 2.

She was born Dec. 22, 1909, in Jamaica, Ill., to Ira Hustler and Lula Ponder. She was raised by her mom and beloved stepdad, Henry Dillman. She married Vic Wimsett Sr. in 1930. From that marriage her two children were born. She is survived by her son, Vic Wimsett Jr. of Galion, Ohio and her daughter, Peggy Adair of Tilton. Also surviving are her grandchildren, Cindy (John) Wargo of Danville, Mike Adair of Tilton, Vic Wimsett III of Westville, Brad Wimsett of Poplarville, Miss., Tonya (Jeff) Galyen of Georgetown and Raymond (Sue) Clauson of Danville. Also surviving are several great-grandchildren and great-great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her son-in-law, Ike Adair; and three grandsons, Randy, Billy and Brian Wimsett.

She graduated eighth grade from Fayette, a one room school south of Catlin and from Catlin High School in 1927. She retired from Sears Roebuck and Co. in 1974 after 28 years. She was a lifelong member of the Vermilion County Museum, as well as a member of Calvary Baptist Church since 1944, where she was active in many ministries and working in the flower beds until she was 90. Opal was blessed with many friends, a caring family who took care of her until 2008 when she entered Vermilion Manor.

The family would like to thank Vermilion Manor for her great care. Services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 7, at Pape Funeral Home, 10 E. Williams St. in Danville with Pastor Scott McCurdy officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior. Burial will be private at Greenwood Cemetery.
