Betty Ann Kieser

DANVILLE — Betty Ann Kieser, 88, died at 2:50 p.m. on June 20, 2012, at Provena Covenant in Urbana from heart failure.

Betty was born on May 16, 1924, in Danville, to Josephine and John Russell Shields. She attended Edison Grade School and Danville High School.

Betty married Joseph Wendall Kieser on Sept. 27, 1944, in Corpus Christi, Texas, after Wendall received his wings in the Navy. They spent time in Deland, Fla.; in Anaheim, Calif., where their son, Joseph was born; and in Washington on Navy orders. They made many lasting friendships through the Navy.

Betty is survived by her daughter, Carol A. Shaffer; seven grandchildren, Timothy Shaffer, Deborah (Garrett) Harley, Bobbett Jensen, Michael Kieser, Suzette Kieser, Joseph Kieser and Josette (James) Sanchez; 12 great-grandchildren; several cousins, including Fannette Davis (Gene) Elliott, David (Agnes) Davis and Bill (Marilyn) Collignon; and many friends including a special friend, John Drews. She was preceded by her husband, Wendall, in 1981; her son, Joseph W. Kieser, in 2001; a grandson, Thomas Kieser, in 1999; and very special friend, Mildred Brown, in May of 2012.

Betty loved baking and was noted for her special cakes. Being that her immediate family lived miles away, friends were very important to Betty. She loved being surrounded by people and spent many hours at Schroeder’s, afternoons and evenings. She became a “daughter” and “mother” to many. She would not hesitate to drive a friend wherever they needed to go. Betty will be remembered for keeping people “on their toes” and for her sense of humor. She touched people’s lives wherever she was.

Visitation will be Sunday, June 24, from 2-4 p.m. at Pape Funeral Home in Danville. The Rev. Dr. Jimmy Hopper will officiate the services at 4 p.m. Sunday. Graveside rites will be at 10 a.m. Monday at Partlow Cemetery in Armstrong, leaving from Pape Funeral Home at 9:30 a.m. Monday. Donations may be made to: CARA Animal Care, 609 E. Fifth St., Tilton, IL 61833, or to your favorite charity in Betty’s name.
