Steve Barney

COVINGTON, Ind. — Steve Barney, formerly of Westville, left to be with his Savior at 2:37 p.m. EST Friday, Nov. 16, 2012, at The Waters of Greencastle, Ind.

He was born May 29, 1929, in Danville, to John and Anna (Kiputa) Barney. He was first united in marriage to Myrna Ledbetter and later divorced in 1983. He then married Geri Russell on Nov. 29, 1987. She survives in Covington, Ind.

Steve “Pop” leaves behind two sons, John Barney of Danville, and Steve “Butch” Barney, Jr., of Covington, Ind.; a daughter, Chris (Ron) Tatman of Westville; seven grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. He also leaves behind two stepdaughters, Susie (Mark) Woolwine of Veedersburg, Ind., and Christa (Christopher) McCastle of Covington, Ind.; and four step-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his two daughters, Mary and Debbie; his son, David; his five sisters, “Liz,” Margaret, Ann, Mary and Katherine; and his three brothers, John, Mike and Joe.

Steve grew up in Westville. He worked for 27 years at General Motors Foundry, retiring on June 2, 1976. He then moved to Covington, Ind., in 1987, where he was an active member of First Church of Christ on Fifth Street. Steve was also an avid bowler and loved to work in his yard. He loved watching sports but especially enjoyed the Illini.

A service to celebrate the life of Steve Barney will be held at 2 p.m. EST Tuesday, Nov. 20, at Sunset’s Covington Chapel. Preacher Bill Cook will officiate. Burial will follow at Sts. Peter and Paul Cemetery in Westville. Visitation will be held from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. EST prior to the service Tuesday at Sunset. Memorials may be made to the First Church of Christ in Covington, Ind.
