James Clarence Roberts, 83, of Danville, passed away at 11:32 a.m. Friday, Dec. 21, 2012, at Colonial Manor Nursing Home in Danville.

He was born Sept. 11, 1929, in Boswell, Ind., the son of William Elmer and Mamie Larie (Farrar) Roberts. He married Frances Hardwick on March 11, 1950, in Hoopeston. She preceded him in death on Feb. 17, 2010.

He is survived by one daughter, Marcia (Robert) Gill of Oakwood; one son, Larry (Ronna) Roberts of Fithian; three brothers, Joel Roberts of Lafayette, Ind., Dick (Linda) Austin of Monticello, Ind., and Robert (Valerie) Austin of Delphi, Ind.; three sisters, Betty Dalton of Oxford, Ind., Beverly (David) High of Lafayette and Margaret Million of Monticello, Ind.; four grandchildren, five great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two children, infant daughter, Karen Theresa and son, James R. “Randy” Roberts; and one brother, Junior Roberts.

Mr. Roberts worked as a Teamster truck driver for many years. He enjoyed reading his Bible, watching old television shows and movies and working outdoors, especially growing his tomatoes. Jim also enjoyed spending time with his family and playing with his grandchildren.

Visitation will be 5-8 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 27, 2012, at Anderson Funeral Home, 427 E. Main St., Hoopeston. Graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, Dec. 28, 2012, at Floral Hill Cemetery in Hoopeston, with Pastor Micah Mobley officiating. Burial will follow.
