Richard Lawson Bernard, 86, of Champaign, passed away Dec. 20, 2012, in Danville.
He was born to Clarence and Ilda Bernard in Detroit, Mich., in 1926.
Dick was an internationally-recognized soybean research geneticist, working for 34 years for the U.S. Department of Agriculture and the National Soybean Research Lab at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.
Survivors include: his sister, four children, nine grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
He was predeceased by his parents and brother.
Visitation: 1 p.m. today, Dec. 29, at Heath & Vaughn Funeral Home, 201 N. Elm St., Champaign. Services: 2 p.m. today at the funeral home.
