Frances T. Carpenter

ELGIN — Frances T. Carpenter, 85, of Elgin, passed away Saturday, Feb. 9, 2013, in her home.

She was born Feb. 28, 1927, in Fairmount, the daughter of Edward and Opal (Baird) Brandon.

Frances was a registered nurse of 45 years and had worked at Sherman Hospital. She retired from the Elgin Mental Health Center.

Frances belongs to PEO Chapter DY Elgin, UMW of Elgin; Jane Adams Circle, Roselle; the Cosmopolitan Club; and was a volunteer with the Elgin Daycare Center.

She was a past member of Roselle First United Methodist Church and present member of First United Methodist Church in Elgin.

Survivors include her daughter, Coleen Elizabeth Turpin Thomas; seven grandchildren, Rebecca (Anthony) Kowalkowski, Keely (Omar) Mohammed, Jeremy (Jaime) Paulus and Seth Thomas, Wendy (Jim) Schmitt, Shawn (Linda) Thomas and Eric (Denise) Thomas; 10 great-grandchildren, Lily Kowalkowski, Merzadies Thomas, Kelsey and Lauren Schmitt, Jacquie and Blake (Hannah) Hanauer, Tara and Jaime Thomas, and Justin and Brett Thomas; and a great-great-grandchild, Landon Hanauer; her sister, Kathryn (Gary) Parks; a sister-in-law, Wilma Brandon; along with many nieces, nephews, family and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her son, Clifford Roland Turpin; her first husband, Roland Clifford Turpin; and second husband, Dr. Morgan Carpenter; three brothers, Joe, Edward Jr. and George Brandon; and three sisters, Thelma Andrews, Elnora Ballien and Opal Burton.

Funeral services will begin at 11 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 16, at Faith Church, 107 E. Vance St., Fairmount. Burial will follow in Davis Cemetery. Visitation will be 10 a.m. until the service Saturday at the church. Laird Funeral Home, Elgin, is in charge of arrangements.

Memorials may be made to First United Methodist Church in Elgin or the Epilepsy Foundation.
