Betty Jane Johnson

NEW CASTLE, Ind. — Betty Jane Johnson, 91, passed away Feb. 19, 2013, in New Castle, Ind.

She was born April 25, 1921, in Newell Township, Vermilion County, southeast of Bismarck, Ill., to Rebecca Jenkins and Oscar Edlar Johnson.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her two brothers, Warner Dannold Johnson and Clark Wendell Johnson; and a sister, Emily Frances Johnson.

Miss Johnson is survived by three nieces, Sara Johnson Elliott (Gene) of Spiceland, Ind., R’Lou Johnson Ellson (Don) of Hampstead, N.C., and Carole Johnson Rubsam (Ray) of Olathe, Kan.; and two nephews, Michael Steven Johnson (Thalia) of Washington, D.C., and Gary Lee Johnson (Stephanie) of Eden Prairie, Minn.

Miss Johnson spent most of her life in Danville, Ill., helping her sister with the care of their invalid mother. She was a loving and generous aunt to her nieces and nephews, often like a mother to them. She continued to nurture her grandnieces and nephews. She loved children and made every child in her extended family feel special.

She worked at Teepak Company in Danville for 22 years. She belonged to Central Christian Church in Danville for many years. Her favorite hymn was “Amazing Grace,” saying it best expressed her testimony. Her interests included sewing, crocheting, music, photography, flowers, birds and wildlife. In later years, she discovered a talent for painting and crafts. Her excellent cross-stitch creations were popular additions to the homes of her family members.

Pastor Steve Dean will conduct a graveside service at 11:30 a.m. Friday, Feb. 22, 2013, at Walnut Corner Cemetery in Newell Township, with funeral arrangements by Sunset Funeral Home and Cremation Center in Danville. Family and friends are welcome to gather at Sunset Funeral Home in Danville at 10 a.m. Friday prior to the graveside service.

Condolences may be sent to the family at www.sunsetfuneralhome.com.
