Lyle Wilson Kinney, 90, of Danville, passed away peacefully Wednesday, Nov. 4, 2009, at his daughter’s home.
Lyle was born May 30, 1919, in Collison, the son of Edward and Anna Kinney. He attended Pilot and Williams Grade School. He graduated from Potomac High School in 1937. After farming for four years in Potomac, he served his country in the Air Force from 1941-1945.
Lyle attended school in Chicago to repair small appliances and worked at Bell and Howell. Lyle moved to Danville in 1948, was a Hoover salesman, worked for Eisners and Lloyd Lucas. He was a self-employed building contractor from 1952 until retirement in 1992.
He was a member of Holy Family Catholic Church. He was an avid sports fan and especially enjoyed watching the Bears and the Cubs.
Lyle married Joann Elizabeth Leibach on April 19, 1947, at St. Josephs’ Catholic Church. She preceded him in death Oct. 5, 2008, after 61 years of marriage.
Survivors include four daughters, Joyce (Jack) Crawley of Danville, Janet (Ernie) Ball of Greenfield, Ind., Jill Dougherty of Catlin and Julie (Chris) Howie of Danville; two sons, Mark (Debbie) Kinney of Sevierville, Tenn., and Matt (Cindy) Kinney of Bradenton, Fla. He also leaves behind 19 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren. Lyle was preceded in death by his parents; one son, Mitchell James; one brother, Leland; two sisters, Irene Collings and Iris Kirkkus.
Visitation will be from 4-7 p.m. with a rosary at 6:30 p.m. Friday, Nov. 6, at Pape Funeral Home, 10 E. Williams St., Danville. Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 7, at Holy Family Catholic Church, 444 E. Main St., Danville, with burial at resurrection cemetery. Guest register: www.papemortuary.com.
