Sally Ann Powell

Sally Ann Powell, 68, of Danville, passed away peacefully at 4:35 a.m. Sunday, Nov. 15, 2009, at Carle Foundation Hospital in Urbana. Services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 19, at Pape Funeral Home, 10 E. Williams St., Danville, with Pastor Randy Holden of South Side Nazarene church officiating. Visitation will be from 3-7 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 18, at Pape’s. Burial will be in Spring Hill Cemetery, Danville.

Sally was born April 19, 1941, in Danville, to Harry Mathias Englert and Virginia May Juvinall. She married Everett E. Powell Sr. on May 13, 1958, in Danville. She attended Oaklawn Grade School and Danville High School. She worked for General Electric, VA Hospital for 17 years and Hardees for 11 years on South Gilbert and Fairchild streets. Sally was a member and past president of the Illiana Genealogy Historical Society, a member of the Vermilion County Museum, she loved genealogy and computers, she was an election judge for Lynch Fire District, her pasttimes were fishing, watching the Fighting Illini, playing with her pugs, cats, collecting dolls and traveling with her daughters for shopping trips. Sally had a great passion for helping others. She believed in paying it forward, so those of you who have had your meal paid for by the person in the car before you, that was her.

Sally was a devoted and loving wife and mother. She is survived by her husband of 51 years, Everett Eugene Powell Sr.; her mother, Virginia Nungester of Vermilion County Nursing Home; her sisters, Betty Doan of Danville, Nancy Melecosky of Ohio and one brother, Harry Butch (Linda) Englert of Catlin; one half sister, Susan (Ken Curtis) Spicer of Danville; half brother, Mark (Joellyn) Hamm; two daughters, Tamara Ann (Frank) Dudley of Georgetown, Jo Beth (Greg) Smith of Stanford.; two sons, Everett Eugene (Brenda Lindsey) Powell Jr. of Danville and Randall Scott Powell of Springfield. Two self-adopted daughters, Treasy (Bill) Ice and Ruth Leahy of Danville. They have 11 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her father, Harry; two half sisters, Mary Anderson and Meadow Lee Black and her infant daughter, Jody Lynn Powell. Guest register: www.papemortuary.com.
