Fern E. Kelly

Fern E. Kelly, 89, of Danville, passed away at 5 p.m. Monday, Nov. 16, 2009, at the Vermilion Manor Nursing Home in Danville. Fern was born on Feb. 22, 1920, in Milford, to William Earl Callahan and Bernice Mayhew-Callahan Groves.

Fern was married in October 1936 to Harold James Kelly of Danville with whom she shared a happy life until his death in April of 1946.

She retired from Provena USMC, (formerly Lake View Memorial Hospital) with many fond memories after 32 years of service in the dietary department. Although Fern enjoyed listening to country music and watching her favorite programs on TV Land, her greatest joy came from loving and spending time with her family.

Preceding Fern in death were her parents; husband Harold and one brother, Ronald E. Callahan. She will be sadly missed by her daughter, Jeanenne (Fausto) Fuentes; four grandchildren: Angelina (Gene) Coffey, Anthony Fuentes, Mario (Lindsay) Fuentes and Matthew (Judith) Fuentes, all of Danville, as well as her seven great-grandchildren and seven great-great-grandchildren. The Kelly family would like to express their appreciation and gratitude at this time to the caring staff at the Vermilion Manor Nursing Home. Their kindness and comfort will be remembered always. A special thanks to Marilyn and the staff on C-section.

A Celebration of the Life for Mrs. Fern Kelly will begin at 2 p.m. Friday, Nov. 20, 2009, at Sunset Funeral Home and Cremation Center located at 3940 N. Vermilion St. in Danville with internment to follow at Sunset Memorial Park. Visitation will be 4-8 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 19, 2009, at the funeral home.
