Samuel Newt Gay

Samuel Newt Gay, 72, of Tilton, passed away at 12:42 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 18, 2009, at Provena United Samaritans Medical Center.

Sam was born Dec. 18, 1936, in Danville, the son of Pearl and Lottie Lovell Gay. On Feb. 3, 1978, he married Priscilla “Pat” Garowski at the home of his brother, Jim and Sandy Gay, in Tilton.

Sam leaves behind his loving wife, Pat, children, Rick (Cathy) Garowski, Teresa (the late Danny) Sliva, Dave (Jeni) Garowski, Becky (Steve) Roberson, Steve Garowski and Candy Garowski.

He was a grandpa of 12 and great-grandpa of nine; brother of Donald “Jiggs” Gay, Jim Gay and Sandy Gay; and uncle of many nieces and nephews. Sam will be missed by many friends and especially by Pete and Molly.

He was preceded in death by his parents and 11 brothers and sisters.

Sam was a great fisherman and enjoyed playing cards — and most of all being with his family.

We all will miss you Sam. You have fought a long battle, now you may rest.

Per his wishes cremation rites have been accorded. A celebration of Sam’s life will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 22 at the Tilton Lions Club, located at 607 14th Street in Tilton (East side of the new overpass, west side of the church building). Pastor Ron Ziemer will officiate. The family invites friends to join them for lunch and fellowship from 12 noon until time of service at 3 p.m.

The family wishes to thank Dr. Mushtaq, his staff and all involved in Sam’s care over these last years.

Arrangements entrusted to Rice Funeral Service.
