Doris June Richards, 87, of Danville, passed away at 4:01 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 19, 2009, at Provena USMC. Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday, Nov. 23, at Pape Memorial Home, 10 E. Williams St., Danville, with Pastor Phil Jackson officiating. Visitation will be from 9-10:30 a.m. Monday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Spring Hill Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Vermilion County Animal Shelter, P.O. Box 965, Danville, IL. 61834 or an organization of the donor’s choice.
Doris was born on April 20, 1922, in Danville, to Carl and Miriam Gladys (Purnell) Goddard. She attended Danville schools and enjoyed raising her five children and attending all of their sports and events. Doris was an active participant in the lives of all of her grandchildren and great grandchildren as well. She enjoyed painting, bingo, her bunco group, card groups and her many friends at Immanuel Senior Residence. Doris was especially fond of all of God’s creatures.
Doris married Harry “Bud” Richards on July 14, 1938, in Veedersburg, Ind.; he preceded her in death on Jan. 3, 1998. She is survived by her four children, Edward (Penny) Richards of Cayuga, Ind., Pam (Ken) Cleverly of Noblesville, Ind., Debbie (Harvey) Clement of Clovis, Calif. and Cris (Warren) Hershberger of Danville; thirteen grandchildren; sixteen great-grandchildren; and five great great-grandchildren. She is also survived by several nieces and nephews and numerous friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, her loving husband of nearly 60 years, a brother: Charles Goddard, a daughter: Linda Sharer, and a granddaughter: Shawn Marie Sharer.
