Judith Kay Hawkins, 69, of Danville, passed this life on Friday, Nov. 20, 2009, at Carle Foundation Hospital in Urbana.
Judy was born March 30, 1940, in Danville, to Harold and Kathryn (Knapp) Hughes. She attended Roselawn Grade School and Danville High School, graduating in 1958. Judy married James Hawkins on May 5, 1960, and they raised three children in their 37 years together. Surviving are two sons, Kent (Mary) Hawkins of Collison and Clint Hawkins of Catlin; a daughter, Kelly (Allen) Hockett of Sidell; four grandchildren, Kyle Hawkins, Travis Hockett, Clayton Hawkins and Macey Hawkins; and a very special friend, Linis “Torch” Prentice. Judy was preceded by her father, her mother and her stepfather, Robert Craig.
Judy started out as a homemaker and later worked at Jamaica schools as a cook. She also worked at The Fashion, The Friends Café, the Sweet Shoppe and then at the Vermilion County Health Department for the past 18 years. She enjoyed cooking, hosting family dinners, shopping with her daughter, traveling with “Torch,” watching her grandkids show hogs at the fairs, raffle and breakfast at the Legion and dining out with the DHS girls. She was a member of Central Christian Church.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 24, at Pape Memorial Home, 10 E. Williams St., Danville, with Pastor Hank Anderson officiating. Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. Monday, Nov. 23, at Pape’s.
