BETTY JEAN HENDERSON


Betty Jean Henderson, 83, of Oakwood (formerly of Westville) peacefully went to be with her Lord at 5:40 p.m. Friday, Nov. 20, 2009.

She was born Sept. 30, 1926, in Bethany, the daughter of Dennis Virgil and Merle Lucille (Harsh) Cook.

She married Hugh “Bud” D. Henderson on May 18, 1947, in Bethany. He preceded her in death on Sept. 15, 2005. Also preceding her in death were her parents and her sister, Mary.

Betty leaves to cherish her life and memory: sons, Dennis (Marie) Henderson of Danville, Gene (Kathleen) Henderson of Effingham and Kim (Donna) Henderson of Danville; one daughter, Virginia Peach (Rick) Wilson of Clearwater, Fla.; one brother, Robert (Wanda) Cook of Huachuca City, Ariz.; nine grandchildren, Tammy Glines of Danville, Tim (Missi) Henderson of Las Vegas, Nev., Erin and Shannon Henderson of Sullivan, Devin Henderson of Vale, Colo., Dustin and David Henderson of Danville, Kate Wilson of Wesley Chapel, Fla., and Kyle Wilson of Clearwater, Fla.; six great-grandchildren, Courtney, Candice and Keely Glines of Danville, Hannah, Abigail, and Phoebe Henderson of Las Vegas; and numerous nieces and nephews, all of whom were very special to her.

Mrs. Henderson’s education ranged from a one-room school house to Eastern Illinois University. She retired in 1991 from Metropolitan Life Insurance Co. in Danville. She was a faith-filled member of Westville First Church of Christ for more than 50 years and enjoyed cooking, reading, crafting, traveling, helping others and spending time with her family. Betty was fondly known by many and will be greatly missed by all who knew her.

A celebration of Betty’s life will commence at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 25, 2009, at Sunset South’s Westville Chapel, 414 S. State St. Pastor Jason D. Smith will officiate. Visitation will be 4-7 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 24, 2009, at the funeral home.

She will be laid to rest next to her beloved husband in Sandusky Cemetery, Westville.
