Jeanne H. Knapp, 86, of Hoopeston, died at 1:45 a.m. Monday, Nov. 23, 2009, at the Hoopeston Community Memorial Nursing Home.
She was born Aug. 19, 1923, to Homer A. and Ferne (Swisher) Maxwell in Wapella, Ill. She married Charles F. Knapp on Dec. 12, 1943, in Little Rock, Ark.
She is survived by her husband, Charles, of Hoopeston; three sons, Vernon C. (Kathie) Knapp of Cottonwood, Ariz., Fred A. Knapp of Phoenix, Ariz., and Donald R. (Pam) Knapp of Lacanda-Flintridge, Calif.; and three grandchildren, Meghan, Chris and Justin of California. She was preceded in death by her parents; one brother, Lee Maxwell; and two sisters, Shirley and Donna.
She graduated from Rankin High School and attended business college in Rockford, Ill. She was an excellent typist and served as secretary for her husband’s auctioneering, real estate contracts and farm and house appraisals for over 35 years. She also worked as a secretary for Dr. Lee in Rankin for several years. She was a past member of the Order of the Eastern Star.
Services: 12:30 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 29, at the Apostolic Christian Church, Cissna Park. Visitation: 4-6 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 28, and one hour prior to services Sunday, at Knapp Funeral Home, Cissna Park. Burial: Apostolic Christian Cemetery. Memorials: Alzheimer’s Association.
