Melvin Lloyd Dunham

DANVILLE — Melvin Lloyd “Skip” Dunham, 81, of Danville, died at 9 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 21, 2013, at Provena United Samaritans Medical Center in Danville.

Services: 4 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 24, at Pape Funeral Home, 10 E. Williams St., Danville, with Pastor Tracy Taulman officiating. Visitation: 1-4 p.m. Sunday at Pape’s. Burial will be at 10 a.m. Monday at Danville National Cemetery, with military rites by American Legion Post 210.

Skip was born July 18, 1931, in Waukegan, Lake County, to Russell Elmer and Edith Alice Wilcoxen Dunham.

He attended Gurnee, Gessie, Ind., Rileysburg, Ind., grade schools and graduated from Perrysville High School in 1950. He also attended Indiana State University and Danville Junior College.

He served with the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict. He had worked for Pauley Lumber in Perrysville and as an iron worker. He had been a sheet metal worker with Henry Bireline in Danville and during the construction of the Assembly Hall in Champaign. He retired with the Sheet Metal Workers Union 218 in 1988. He had farmed from 1960-1980.

He had attended Coal Branch Independent Church. He had been a member of American Legion Post 350 of Perrysville, Ind. He had a private pilot’s license. He enjoyed gardening and planting trees.

Skip married Gertrude Helen Webb on May 23, 1959, at Coal Branch Church by the Rev. Grover Williams, and she survives. Also surviving are two twin children, Chrystal (Tony) Keller and Christopher Dunham; four grandchildren, Timothy Jarred Keller, Jeremy Michael Keller, Abigail Marie Keller and Samuel Aaron Keller; and a sister, Eleanor Haugen.

He was preceded by his parents; two brothers, Orde E. Dunham and Richard V. Dunham; and a sister, Kathryn Dunham.
