Evelyn Liggett Davis

BROADLANDS — Evelyn Liggett Davis, 84, of Broadlands, passed away at 2:33 p.m. Monday, Feb. 25, 2013, at Provena Covenant Medical Center, Urbana.

Funeral services will begin at 10 a.m. Friday, March 1, 2013, at Kirby Funeral Home, 708 S. Main St., Homer, with Pastor Kathy Murphy officiating. Burial will be in Stearns Cemetery, Fithian. Visitation will be 5-8 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 28, 2013, at Kirby Funeral Home.

Mrs. Davis was born July 2, 1928, in Oakwood Township. She was the daughter of Carl E. and Myrtle Alverson Liggett.

She married Loyal D. Davis on June 25, 1950, in Catlin. He survives.

Also surviving are three sons, Ron (Julie) Davis of Crawfordsville, Ind., Rich (Barbara) Davis of Champaign and Jim (Connie) Davis of Victor, Iowa; seven grandchildren; one great-grandson; three sisters, Elna Davis of Watseka, Linda (Bill) Ingram of Catlin and Marilyn (Mike) Gehring of Galesburg; and one brother, Dean (Karen) Liggett of Gilbertsville, Ky. She was preceded in death by her parents, one sister and two brothers.

Mrs. Davis graduated from Oakwood High School in 1946 and earned her degree in education from Illinois State University in 1950. She taught in several area schools and retired from teaching in 1987 after 29 years. The last 19 years were spent teaching at ABL High School in Broadlands. She was a member of the Broadlands United Community Church. She was an avid reader, a crossword enthusiast, and enjoyed following Illini sports and the Chicago Cubs.

In lieu of other expressions of sympathy, memorials may be made to Broadlands United Community Church.
