DANVILLE —
Robert Fletcher Lemaire, 85, of Danville, died at 3:18 p.m. Saturday, March 2, 2013, at North Logan Health Care in Danville.
Bob was born May 28, 1927, in Danville to Fleury Etienne and Emma Dorothy Phillips Lemaire.
He attended Elmwood and Oaklawn grade schools and graduated from Danville High School in 1945. He studied at the University of Illinois. He served with the U.S. Navy during World War II and the Korean Conflict.
Bob was owner of Lemaire Sign Company from 1985 to 2000, the business his father, Fleury, founded in 1929.
In 1952, after the death of his father, Bob and business partner, Clarence Greisheimer, bought the business from Bob’s mother, Dorothy. A charter member of the Illinois Sign Association, he was honored with the coveted Maury Ely Award for his years in the sign industry and his service to the Illinois Sign Association. Bob proudly received a “proclamation” from the Illinois House of Representatives for his leadership in business and his contributions to the city of Danville.
Active in the community, Bob was a board member of the Danville Elks Blood Bank, a chairman in the Danville Elks Lodge 332 and a member of the Danville Jaycees and the Danville Tennis Club. Bob also was the Vermilion County Dad representative for the University of Illinois in the mid 1970s. A member of Central Christian Church for 83 years, he had the distinction of being a member longer than anyone in the congregation.
Bob married Doris Mae Hargan, the love of his life, on June 22, 1947, at Central Christian Church. She survives.
Together Bob and Doris enjoyed ballroom dancing, attending Fighting Illini games, a good tennis match, Danville Symphony, warm beaches and especially time shared with family and friends.
He is loved and adored by his two daughters, Nancy (Jim) Kuras and Lou Ann (Chris) Lemaire-Pyle; four grandchildren, Amy (Mark) Toler, Jenny (Derek) Coon, Brett (April) Kuras and Leo Lemaire-Pyle; and seven great-grandchildren, Austin Toler, Joshua Toler, Ty Coon, Kylee Coon, Brady Coon, EllyAsa Kuras and Annaleah Kuras.
All will miss his engaging conversations, his flare for cooking and entertaining, his creativity and laughter and his “smile and a wink.”
Services will begin at 1 p.m. Wednesday, March 6, at Pape Funeral Home, 10 E. Williams, Danville, with Pastor Hank Anderson officiating. Visitation will be 4-6:30 p.m. Tuesday at Pape’s.
Memorials may be made to Central Christian Church, 1101 N. Vermilion, Danville, IL 61832 or Danville Tennis Club, 900 Lincoln Ave., Danville, IL 61832. Burial will be in Spring Hill Cemetery, with military rites by the American Legion Post 210.
