SPOKANE, Wash. — Elma (Redifer) Martin was born Oct. 11, 1921, in Danville.

In 1940, she married her high school sweetheart, Jack Martin.

During World War II she worked as a secretary. After the birth of three children, she was a full-time homemaker.

In 1954, the family moved to Spokane, Wash. Elma often volunteered at church, school and community events. She received the President’s Award for Community Service by crocheting over 1,000 lap robes and baby blankets for distribution to nursing homes and young mothers.

Elma viewed every event in life as a chance to “win souls for the Lord.”

On Feb. 5, 2013, she went to heaven to be with her blessed Lord.

She was preceded in death by her parents; five sisters; two brothers; her husband, Jack; her daughter, June; and her great-granddaughter, Spring.

Elma is survived by her daughter Marilyn Brodrick, Danville; her son, Steven Martin, Spokane, Wash.; six grandchildren; and 18 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were Feb. 12. Family asks that donations be made to Hospice of Spokane, 121 S. Arthur, Spokane, WA 99202.
