Barbara M. (Bedinger) Pollitt

HOOPESTON — Barbara M. (Bedinger) Pollitt, 79, of Hoopeston and formerly of Georgetown, left this world to meet her Savior on March 16, 2013, at home surrounded by her daughters, Jean Raymer, Deb (Mike) Drollinger and Terri (Pollitt) Carreno-Diaz, all of Hoopeston, and her son, Randy (Lesa) Pollitt, of Indianapolis.

Barbara married Kenneth Pollitt in Clinton, Ind., on June 25, 1951.

She was a lifelong resident of Georgetown, but had resided in Hoopeston for the last several years.

She loved being surrounded by her four children, 13 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren, who survive. She also is survived by four sisters, Dorothy King of Eugene, Ore., Sharon Bedinger of Seattle, Wash., Janet Heckel of South Carolina and Audrey Short of Seattle, Wash.; a brother, Richard Bedinger of Hephzibah, Ga.; along with three lifelong friends, Doris Brown and Leo and Emily Robinson.

She was preceded in death by her parents; spouse; three siblings, two children and three grandchildren.

She was an avid Illini fan, enjoying basketball games and gymnastic meets. Affectionately known as the “Cake Lady,” she was a self-employed cake decorator for Georgetown and the surrounding areas. She loved making cakes for all occasions, but her specialty was wedding cakes, which allowed her to be involved with several families for three generations.

She was a dedicated Mom and Grandma and enjoyed all the great time she spent with her family. She loved working in the yard and her passion was her roses. She enjoyed music, crocheting and collecting stuffed bears.

Barbara has lost her year-long battle with ALS, and the family requests memorials be made to the ALS Association or Carle Hospice.

A celebration of Barbara’s life will begin at 2 p.m. Wednesday, March 20, at Sunset’s Houghton-Leasure Funeral Home, Georgetown, with Pastor McPhillips officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. She will be laid to rest in Georgetown Cemetery.

Please join her family in sharing memories through her Tribute Wall at www.sunsetfuneralhome.com.
