DANVILLE —
Thomas E. “Jocko” Askins, 67, of Danville, went to be with the Lord at 6:40 a.m. Friday, Oct. 5, 2012, at Provena United Samaritans Medical Center in Danville.
Thomas was born Sept. 16, 1945, in Danville to Leonard and Helen Bolser Askins.
Thomas, also known as Jocko, attended Danville schools. He retired from the Laborers Union in Merriville, Ind. Currently Jocko was self-employed with his own pilot car service.
Jocko had a love for life! He was an avid horse racing fan, enjoyed golfing with his friends and was always trying to find the perfect “honey-hole” while fishing for the one that got away.
Survivors include three daughters, Lori Smith of Florida, Michelle Hubbard of Kentucky and Miranda Askins of Danville; four grandchildren, Amanda Fies, Paige Borowski and Aiden and Aubrey Meyers; siblings, Dennis (Maureen) Askins, Ronald Askins, Marilyn (Richard) Hix, Linda (Arnold) McClain and Darlene (Dan) Alexander; several nieces, nephews and a host of family and close friends.
He was preceded by his parents and two sisters, Karen Hayes and Carmen Beasley.
A visitation will commence from noon-1 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 11, at The Executive Plaza Banquet Room, 3350 N. Vermilion St., Danville. A prayer and celebration of life service will begin at 1 p.m. Leek & Sons Funeral Home, 304 E. Williams St., Danville, is in charge of arrangements.
