DANVILLE —
Inez Amelia Giardino went peacefully after a lengthy illness on Monday, Feb. 25, 2013, at Hawthorne Inn in Danville under hospice care. She was 97 years young at heart.
She was born March 23, 1915, in Lewisburg, Pa., one of five children to Emanuel and Lila (Stahl) Beck.
She married Nicholas L. Giardino on Dec. 30, 1953, in Lucedale, Miss. He preceded her in death after 45 years of marriage in August of 1999.
She is survived by one sister, Mary Whitmyer of Granite City, and many family members and friends. She will be missed by all.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; two brothers, Dale and Jacob Beck; and one sister, Ethel Edinger.
Inez met Nick in Destin, Fla., and then married him in Lucedale while he was in the Air Force. She was a strong and devoted wife and they traveled during his career to Texas, Colorado, California and Japan. Inez was a self-taught seamstress and while in Colorado worked for the Windbreaker jacket factory.
Once Nick retired, Bismarck became their home. She worked briefly at the local Windbreaker factory in Danville. Aunt Inez would always have a pot of coffee on for the asking and treated the waitresses well as she was one herself.
She enjoyed Bingo, word searches and game shows, taking long drives and feeding the birds and squirrels, always making sure their feeders were full and visiting with family.
She was a member of the 4-H Extension Club, Christian Women’s Club and Farmers Chapel Church. She enjoyed a good Arby’s Junior with a senior Mt. Dew — it was a favorite spot for her and Uncle Nick until he passed away. She also mended for family and friends doing anything and everything from blankies to formals and one wedding dress, without taking any payment for her work.
Thank you to Liberty Estates, Hawthorne Inn, Alpha Care, Passages Hospice, Dr. Halloran and Cathy Kurtz for all your time and care.
A celebration of Inez’s life will begin at 11 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 28, at Sunset Funeral Home and Cremation Center, A Life Celebration Home in Danville, with Pastor Jan Reeder officiating. A visitation will be 10-11 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 28, prior to the service at the funeral home. Entombment will take place at Sunset Memorial Park. Memorials can be made in lieu of flowers in Inez’s name to Farmers Chapel Church or the donor’s choice. Please join Inez’s family in sharing photos, videos and memories of her through her Tribute Wall at www.sunsetfuneralhome.com.
