DANVILLE —
Charles Fred Albert, 86, resident of Danville, died Tuesday, Oct. 30, 2012, at the VA Illiana Health Care System in Danville.
Born Feb 10, 1926, in Collison, Charles graduated from Newman High School, attended U of I Extension and graduated from Worsham Mortuary School class of 1948.
He served in the Navy in WWII aboard the USS Union AKA106 cruiser in the Pacific. Upon returning, he met and married Alice Maudlin of Georgetown in 1952. The couple recently celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary.
They have two sons, Fred A. Albert of San Diego and Jim E. Albert of Suwanee, Ga., and a daughter, Anne (Albert) Gregorie of Lawrenceville, Ga.
A Danville funeral director for more than 50 years, Charles was most recently with Sunset Funeral Home in Danville, but worked many years for Barrick Funeral Home before that.
Charles was a member of St. James Methodist Church where he served on many committees, including the board of trustees. He was a member of Anchor Lodge, the Elks, the Kiwanis Breakfast Club, Danville Consistory, Toastmasters Club, Apollo Great Lakes Camping Club, VFW, Eastern Illinois Shrine Club, Ansar Shrine Club and was formerly on the board of the Salvation Army. He spent a good deal of his spare time supporting other Vermilion County charitable organizations, including the Red Cross.
He is survived by his wife, children, six grandchildren and three sisters, Norma Jo Pyle of Houston, Texas, Creta Arlington of Marion, Ind., and Alice Snyder of Danville. He was preceded in death by his parents, Fred and Estella Barkman Albert, two brothers and three sisters.
A celebration of Charles’ life will begin at 2 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 3, at Sunset Funeral Home and Cremation Center, A Life Celebration Home, in Danville, with the Rev. Randy Robinson officiating. Visitation will be noon-2 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home. Private entombment will take place at Sunset’s Swan Court Chapel Mausoleum.
