Edward B. Mulcahey

NEWMAN — Edward B. Mulcahey, 86, of Newman, passed away on Friday, Oct. 19, 2012, at the Pleasant Meadows Christian Village in Chrisman.

Funeral Mass will be held at 10 a.m. Monday at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Villa Grove. Father Paul Skelton will officiate. A visitation will be held Monday at the church from 9-10 a.m. Burial will be held at the St. Joseph Cemetery in Bongard.

Mr. Mulcahey was born on Aug. 24, 1926, in Rankin, a son of Edward B. and Ruth Murray Mulcahey. He married Betty Wegeng on Jan. 12, 1952, in Bongard. She survives.

Also surviving are children, Mary (John) Hawkins of Newman, Margaret Mulcahey of Hoopeston, Thomas Mulcahey of St. Louis, Mo., Theresa (Brian) Smith of Allerton and James Mulcahey of Lafayette, Ind.; grandchildren, John (Sara) Hawkins of Tuscola, Aaron, Brett and Hilary Smith of Allerton, and Emily and Rachel Mulcahey of Oakwood; great-grandchildren, Amelia and Charlotte Hawkins of Tuscola; a sister, Jean Kaufman of Rantoul; and brothers, Vince Mulcahey of Champaign and Frank Mulcahey of Ohio.

He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother, a granddaughter and a great-grandson.

Edward was a farmer in the area, a former U.S. Postal Service mail carrier and an avid fan of the Cubs and all sports.

Memorials may be made to the St. Michael’s Catholic Church in Hume, the Sacred Heart Altar Society or the St. Joseph Cemetery.

Joines-Appleby Funeral Home of Newman is in charge of arrangements.
