Larry D.“Slug” Rodgers

RIDGE FARM — Larry D. “Slug” Rodgers, 72, of Ridge Farm, passed away at 11:25 p.m. Aug. 31, 2010, at Provena USMC, in Danville.

He was born to Jabez L. and Clovia Miller Rodgers on June 4, 1938, in Danville. He was wed to Julia Claypool on March 8, 1957, but was later married to Katherine Alcorn on May 21, 1966, in Georgetown. She will miss him dearly.

He also will be missed by his children, Timothy (Cathy) Rodgers of Tomball, Texas, F. Scott (Sonna) Rodgers of Ridge Farm, Brian D. (Shelley) Rodgers of Oakwood, Dana L. Romero of Plano, Texas, and Debra J. (Daniel) Crawford of Bridgeport, Ill.; his grandchildren, Neel Rodgers, Steven Rodgers, Jeromy Spesard, Joshua Rodgers, Tanner Rodgers, Halley Woods, T.J. Young, Tyler Young, Nathan Crawford, Joshua Crawford, Mary Ann Deering, Tony Deering and Yalana Romero; and several great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his son, Monte Ray Rodgers; and his sister, Sharon Cagle.

In his early years, Larry was a licensed barber in Ridge Farm. He later retired, in 1994, after 20-plus years of service from Hyster Company. He was a member of the Lift Truck Union. Larry enjoyed going horseback riding, riding snowmobiles, going camping and boating as well as playing cards. He enjoyed his dogs.

Most of all, Larry loved spending time with his family, grandchildren and friends.

A celebration of Larry’s life will be at 1 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 4, at Sunset’s Houghton-Leasure Funeral Home, a Life Celebration Home, 200 E West St, Georgetown. Visitation will be 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. prior to his service. Ronnie Crawford will officiate. He will be laid to rest in Crown Hill Cemetery. Memorial donations can be made in Larry’s name to the Vermilion County Animal Shelter. Condolences may be sent to the family at www.sunsetfuneralhome.com.
