Violet A. “Vi” Cockrell

WESTVILLE — Violet A. “Vi” Cockrell, 67, of Westville, passed away at 8:32 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 1, 2010, at Carle Foundation Hospital, Urbana.

She was born on July 4, 1943, in Danville, the daughter of Leonard and Celia Palmer Treadway.

She was united in marriage to Larry Allen Cockrell on Sept. 2, 1965, in Montgomery, Tenn., until his passing on Aug. 4, 2000.

Vi enjoyed doing crochet, dining out with her mother and taking drives. She loved cooking turkey and noodles. She worked at Steel Grip in Danville as a master seamstress for 10 years and was a member of the Southside Church of the Nazarene. Most of all, Vi loved spending time with her family and grandkids.

She will be missed by her mother, Celia Palmer Treadway of Danville; her sons, Bryan (Jackie) Jackson of Crawfordsville, Ind., Allen Cockrell of Westville and William (Pam) Brewer of Westville; her daughters, Vickie (Mike) Zaayer of Tilton and Lori (David) Emerick of Westville; her 13 grandchildren; her 12 great-grandchildren; her brothers, Richard (Tama) Treadway of Danville, Donald (Dorothy) Treadway of Georgetown and Charles (Joyce) Treadway of Danville; and her special friends, Sharon Baker of Danville and Joyce Spease of Lexington, Mo.

She was preceded in death by her father and her brother, Terrance.

A celebration of Violet’s life will begin at 1 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 8, at Sunset-Urbas Funeral Chapel, A Life Celebration Home, 414 S. State St., Westville. Kent Pitcher will officiate. Visitation will be 4-8 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 7, 2010, at the funeral chapel. She will be laid to rest in Oak Hill Cemetery.
