Waunita DeVoss McGinnis, 78, of Danville, completed her life’s journey at 7:45 a.m. Sept. 6, 2010, in Provena United Samaritans Medical Center, and is now in the company of God.
She was born June 22, 1932, in Danville, the daughter of Manley and Helen Wyckoff DeVoss. She attended Danville grade schools and was a graduate of Danville High School. A resident of Danville most of her life, she formerly lived at Crawfordsville, Ind., and Wallace, Ind.
She married Clifford McGinnis and had one son, Terry McGinnis, whom she cherished. Waunita was a homemaker, and will be most remembered for her deep love of her family.
Waunita is survived by her brothers, Francis DeVoss and Kenneth DeVoss, both of Covington, Ind.; her nieces, Julie (Frank) Fitzwater, Brenda (Darren) Stokes, Debbie (Steve) Kotcher, Laura DeVoss; one special nephew, Kenneth (Paulette) Miller; nine great-nieces and nephews; and six great-great-nieces and great-great-nephews. She also is survived by a special friend, Mary Hinkle of Covington, Ind. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; son; sister, Marcella Miller; a niece; and a nephew.
A celebration of life visitation will be noon to 2 p.m. EDT, Wednesday, Sept. 8, at Shelby Funeral Home, Covington, Ind. Graveside services with Bill Cook officiating will follow at 2:30 p.m. EDT Wednesday in Spring Hill Cemetery, Danville. Following the services she will be laid to rest with her beloved husband and son. Her love and kindness to everyone she knew will always be remembered.
The family requests memorial contributions are made to the Alzheimer’s Foundation with envelopes available at the funeral home.
